One advantage of travelling at the time of year is that tourist numbers are down and there has been no trouble at all arranging accommodation or tickets ... The vista of mountains, little Siberian villages, bridges spanning mighty rivers and mile after mile after hundreds of miles of forest and open fields is just mind boggling.

Another incredible day as we drove 100km on frozen Lake Baikal stopping to look at the icy formations very like the stalactites and stalagmites in caves. We had a picnic lunch (more omul baked in foil with veges - delicious) on the ice.
